Railcar Laborer
TM Track Machines is NOW HIRING hard-working, reliable individuals who are interested in starting a career in the railroad industry. Qualified candidates must have basic mechanical skills along with the willingness and ability to learn to use machines and tools required to weld, cut, and gouge. We are looking for candidates who work well with a team, are literate in English with good communication skills, and are ready and willing to learn.
4 day work week, Monday through Thursday! Paid every Friday!
Position Description
The Railcar Laborer is expected to assist in all areas as needed, performing a wide range of tasks to assist in the repair, sandblasting, cleaning, and painting of railcars. They must ensure all company guidelines are met and all safety rules are followed when performing duties. Working safely and maintaining a safe work area are top priorities for this position.
Major Areas of Responsibility
- Follow direction and accomplish assigned tasks within time standards with minimal supervision
- Use a variety of tools safely and proficiently, including, but not limited to: sandblaster, pneumatic and hydraulic tools, grinders, jacks, and cutting torches
- Assist team members with completing their tasks, varying by the tasks at hand
- Deliver material and equipment to Carman as required
- Daily assistance with housekeeping (both indoors and outdoors)
- Learn, comprehend, and apply all new hire, safety, and on-the-job training for all departments
- Learn, comprehend, and apply AAR, FRA, customer, and company requirements
- Interact professionally with crew members and management in a team environment
- Comply with all safety and environmental health policies & practice proper housekeeping by ensuring a clean work area
- Ensure TM Track Machines and customer quality assurance standards are met
Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to read and write English at a high school level
- Dependable and consistent attendance/punctuality
- Willingness and ability to learn to use machines and tools required to weld, cut, and gouge
- Perform/prioritize multiple tasks with attention to details
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Basic mechanical skills and the ability to read a tape measure
Work Requirements
- Ability to work in conditions that include loud noise, fumes, dirt, and heavy equipment in motion
- Work in hot and cold environment, in and out of the weather; work safely around heavy equipment and on top of and under railcars, as well as around railroad tracks
- Ability to transverse and work on uneven surfaces
- Ability to distinguish auditory signals with training
- Ability to change easily from one task to another (varying in nature) and deal with competing demands
- Ability to work in tight spaces, under railcars, track equipment, locomotives, vehicles, etc.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including, but not limited to: steel toe boots, eye protection, ear plus, gloves, hot work PPE, and fall protection
- Ability to meet all functional requirements including, but not limited to: lifting (up to 60lbs), sitting, kneeling, standing, walking, bending, twisting, squatting, finger dexterity, and reaching above/below shoulders
